Amcor, the world leader in responsible packaging solutions, has opened up a cutting-edge coating facility in Selangor, Malaysia, dedicated to healthcare packaging. The region's first air knife coating technology complements this facility as the sole integrated healthcare packaging site in Asia for top and bottom substrates to produce medical device packaging. It also advances local production capabilities towards a more robust supply chain, including shorter lead times, quality assurance, and more efficient delivery to customers. Hence, fly air knife coating system, water-based coatings, and online inspections at this Selangor plant. Such stuff elevates Amcor's operational abilities and raises modern standards for healthcare packaging manufacturing in Asia set for this new facility.
Amcor made sure to upgrade its Selangor facility because of the rapidly growing demand for healthcare products in the Asia Pacific region. The pandemic showed the necessity of high-quality critical healthcare application packaging. Amcor wishes to have supply chain flexibility in the rapid deployment of medical devices and pharmaceutical products, as well as maintaining the consistency of quality and supply. The project brings in more advanced coating technology and increases the local production capacity towards better fulfillment of local demand for sterile and reliable packaging, which fits Amcor’s global strategy of delivering its leading healthcare product platform locally for greater supply security and flexibility.
Furthermore, Amcor is extending its healthcare offerings in the Asia Pacific region by acquiring MDK in China, establishing a new grid lacquer paper unit in India, and constructing a high-end printing and film plant in Singapore. This is a strategic step to ensure that Amcor strengthens its position in East Asia by attracting local manufacturing of specialty healthcare papers, as well as co-extrusion and high-performance printing capabilities for flexible healthcare packaging. Location: Selangor The site also adds itself to the Amcor saving goal through water-based coatings and energy-efficient technologies, localization, and thereby reducing the long-haul carbon footprint associated with global supply chains.
An important achievement in the development of healthcare packaging in the Asia Pacific region is Amcor’s Malaysian coating facility. This facility embodies innovation, regional responsiveness, and sustainable manufacturing for which Amcor is distinguished in offering excellence to its customers both locally and globally. Not only does healthcare spending rise, but governments in the region also focus more on healthcare infrastructure, which brings the need for safe medical packaging to a new prominence. This facility is now up and running and has been set aside for medical device manufacturers, pharmaceutical companies, and health providers in the region.
