Apotex, the largest pharmaceutical industry in Canada, put a new face on global maternal health by recently inaugurating the Apotex Global Health Access Fund. With an expected annual budget of about one million dollars, the fund will pay particular attention to the health inequities in maternal health outcomes across communities in Canada, the US, India, and Mexico where access to healthcare is considerably restricted due to the economy, race, and social conditions. The first partaker of the funds is the Rexdale Community Health Centre in Toronto, which will acquire an annual grant of US$250,000 over the next three years to strengthen its maternal health services. According to Apotex CEO, Allan Oberman, this fund is part of carrying on for the company its more than 50-year legacy toward access to affordable medicines.
The Global Health Access Fund by Apotex aims at removing barriers such as inequitable access, poor health literacy, and social determinants affecting the health of different populations. During its first year, both services and grants from the fund will therefore focus on maternal health efforts around wraparound services for date improvement of outcomes in prenatal and postnatal care for vulnerable populations.
The North Etobicoke community receives an annual grant of $250,000 for the improvement of the health services in the community. This year's first beneficiary will be the Rexdale Community Health Centre in Toronto. The focus will entirely be on programs related to mobile health clinics, and prenatal, and postnatal comprehensive support. Executive Director Safia Ahmed stated how these funds will improve maternal health programs as well as ''catapult'' the services provided to underserved and marginalized communities toward a future where every mother enjoys care.
One of the different maternal health initiatives that Apotox has initiated in the United States is directed toward the issues of poor health infrastructure and no accessibility to affordable services. Most importantly, this will address the health disparity that exists by reducing it for Black and Hispanic women who are found to have a higher maternal mortality rate than other groups in the US. Their intervention will thus provide a platform for using an example like that of Apotex.
The Apotex Global Health Access Fund has been opened up by Apotex, a well-known global health leader, to narrow down the health inequities in the global arena. The fund will cover all types of medicines, generic, biosimilar, and proprietary pharmaceutical products. This will ensure that mothers and families will access affordable medicines. The regional bet offices of Apotex-the United support the cause of health equity in the rest of the world near Mexico and India. This fund puts footprints in the sand for maternal health in the Apotex cause.
Apotex collaborates with local organizations to implement maternal health programs and utilizes its footprint worldwide to address challenges in healthcare delivery. Apotex Global Health Access Fund involves a scalable model improving maternal health outcomes with a plan to expand its scope. The vision of the company aligns with global efforts to ensure equity in access to healthcare thereby addressing disparities among underserved populations. While Apotex is celebrating its 50th anniversary, this initiative strengthens the mission of the company to empower communities and improve health outcomes globally.
