Cuban doctors are today rendering medical aid to the indigenous communities in southeastern Mexico under extreme conditions of geography and logistics within the Sierra del Nayar. These bilateral agreements between Cuba and Mexico have given way to bringing 164 specialists in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Surgery, and Gynecology to Nayarit. The work of these doctors has been saving newborns, providing high-level care for pregnant women, and greatly improving the surgery rates. Among other specialists, the Cuban medical brigade was sent into the state on July 22, 2022, in Cardiology, Neurology, Otolaryngology, and Proctology. Huge changes are generally seen in health care for the region by Cuban doctors, leading health care to areas where specialists had never been before.
Now, Cuban doctors are in Nayarit, and their medical expertise is going to help bring hope to the forgotten communities. Many people had never seen a specialist, leaving their company's work truly life-changing. The community here received them with open arms and is very grateful for their presence. They have treated the most pressing immediate health problems and started building trust with the communities. All these form parts of saving newborns, reducing infant mortality rates, establishing prenatal care, increasing surgical capacity, and managing chronic and complex conditions such as those concerning the cardiovascular system and the central nervous system. That is how the locals have welcomed the doctors with much love and affection.
The medical quest of Cuban brigades connects all the energies of Mexican health areas having shortages. In addition, it aims at universalizing health coverage and closing gaps in access to medical care. The practice offers Cuban doctors, brought out to the world with their missions in public health, an opportunity to be active in remote and resource-poor settings like Sierra del Nayar. Leading the brigade has proven both a challenge and a privilege, in that the members are all highly trained specialists, who have integrated themselves into Mexico's same health system as their mission is to go beyond the reaches even to the most complex areas.
The Cuban medical mission in Nayarit, Mexico, has opened discussions about extending similar programs to other states of the country. The collaboration between Cuba and Mexico reaffirms international efforts to combat inequities in health and improve access to quality medical services. Cuban doctors have contributed their expertise and solid commitment towards speeding up the progress in critical areas, thus easing the burden upon the already over-worked healthcare system in Mexico. Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador's priorities now include improving access to health care even in poorly served areas, and the cooperation with Cuba affirms this. Their presence has improved maternal health and well-being for the indigenous people in the area.
Cuban doctors in Sierra del Nayar are not only medical professionals. They are part of an active movement to bring about change in marginalized communities. Their work has rendered very vital health services to populations that have previously been deprived. Dr. Nápoles emphasized the Cuban medical brigade's commitment to its mission. With both Cuban and Mexican governments backing the work, this becomes a model of international cooperation in creating sustainable solutions to the world's health problems.
