Following a renewed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), Amazon intends to increase the volume of e-commerce exports in India. This initiative is part of the government's target to see the country achieve $200-300 billion in exports by 2030.

Amazon and DGFT

Some of the components of this MoU would include integrating Amazon's Export Navigator tool into DGFT's Trade Connect portal and creating local Export Communities for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The partnership, which started in November 2023, will serve almost all 47 districts through specialized training sessions that will provide structured learning opportunities for navigating the complexities of global e-commerce for MSMEs. This partnership aims to help these businesses build the requisite capacities and skills to access foreign markets.

Empowering MSMEs Through Training and Support

The core components of the initiative include training MSMEs, conducting workshops and participatory sessions on product selection, compliance with international trade standards, and increasing the performance of business operations. The rejuvenated collaboration is structured to provide a well-laid roadmap for MSMEs that would have a better understanding as far as international markets and export documentation requirements are concerned.

The special campaigns under DGFT and Amazon promote e-commerce exports to 20 districts in India within the first year. It has more than 3000 MSMEs involved in the program. The new program under this MoU introduces Export Communities, which serve as local offline networks for MSMEs to connect with industry experts, government agencies, and existing exporters. These communities are responsible for tying together multiple stakeholders, including government bodies, third-party service providers, manufacturers, and exporters when these offer mentorship, training, and practical assistance to MSMEs looking to scale their global business operations.

Amazon’s Export Navigator Tool: A Game-Changer for Indian Exporters

Amazon has now incorporated its Export Navigator tool in a one-dashboard integration with the Trade Connect portal of the Directorate General of Foreign Trade to make it easier for exporters to manage their regulatory requirements. This tool is open to all Indian exporters, whether or not registered on Amazon, and it solves issues such as compliance, logistics, and payment processing. The initiative aims to simplify global trade because it has a single-window solution for cross-border e-commerce compliance.

country has enormous potential in e-commerce export, where the government facilitates creating many avenues for MSMEs in digital trade. In that context, the Districts as Export Hubs scheme will aim to take up district-specific products and services into global export commodities. The DGFT will work with the states and districts to simplify export processes through increased manufacturing capabilities. The company has also added three new wind farms in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu to its renewable energy footprint in India, taking its total contribution of renewable energy to over 379 MW.

The Road Ahead: Enabling $80 Billion in Cumulative E-commerce Exports

Amazon India has collaborated again with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade by taking the joint partnership initiative for MSMEs and entrepreneurs in 47 states from India. The company aims to make it possible for e-commerce exports from India to cumulate $80 billion by 2030. This partnership intends to smoothen and simplify the global trade for Indian businesses and make the process of getting into exports more accessible to companies of every size, Said Bhupen Wakankar, Director of Global Trade at Amazon India, while the company added that it will simplify the process making it more accessible, leading to India's growth in total exports. Such an alliance would then be a great step toward driving India's e-commerce export ecosystem and enabling thousands of MSME organizations for higher business prospects.
