R1 RCM, along with Palantir Technologies, has established R37, a new AI laboratory whose principal aim is to change the course of healthcare financial performance. At the heart of this AI lab is joining R1's expertise in the payer-provider dynamic with Palantir's advanced capabilities in artificial intelligence to tackle inefficiencies in reimbursement.

The American health system is predicted not to slow down the ever-rising administrative costs, with more than 40% of total hospital expenses attributed to it. R1 and Palantir aimed to relieve some of these financial burdens by using AI-driven automated processes to shorten and simplify complex procedures such as medical coding, billing, and denials management. This results in over $160 billion of this spent per year going down the drain in a single shot through revenue cycle management.

The Healthcare Company R1 has partnered with Palantir to install AI tools into the RCM data repository. The aim of the partnership is focused on bettering efficiency, accuracy, and scalability in forward reimbursement options, which optimize revenue cycle processes for healthcare providers throughout the United States. The data contain more than 180 million annual payer transactions, 550 million annual patient encounters, 20,000 proprietary payment algorithms, and 1.2 billion annual workflow actions. In a statement on the collaboration, R1's Chief Executive Officer Joe Flanagan said that the pact excited him in that it would not just accelerate investments on behalf of providers but also create a new revenue cycle delivering a fast, frictionless, and transparent financial experience for providers and patients alike.

Innovations from R37

R37 is developing AI-powered agents and applications to improve the financial performance of healthcare. The lab focuses on automated administrative functions, denial management enhancement, payer-provider interaction optimization, and cash flow improvements. The first AI-powered agentic RCM solutions are expected to go live with a select group of enterprise customers in the latter half of 2025. They are envisioned to enhance revenue cycle efficiency, minimize administrative costs, enhance financial transparency, and free up healthcare workers' time for patient care. Initial lab batch testing has shown considerable efficiency and accuracy improvement.
