Amazon has unveiled the Nova Act Artificial Intelligence Agent, a research preview of its latest artificial intelligence innovation. This considerably extends Amazon's Nova series of frontier AI models, which are now available to US users. The Nova Act toolkit and the site set up specifically for it will enable developers and AI enthusiasts to fully experiment with the capabilities of these advanced models. The Nova series of AI models was announced in December 2024 and counts three variants: Micro, Lite, and Pro. These native large language models (LLMs) are created to provide frontier intelligence with industry-leading price performance.
The Nova Act toolkit has thus extended more access to developers of all types, according to their respective levels of computational needs and complexities, providing a relevant scalable solution to enterprises and developers alike.
Amazon's Nova Act AI Agent is a software development kit designed to extend the capabilities of the existing AI models. This program allows developers to build intelligent applications with varying levels of autonomy. Through the Nova Act, AI can do activities in a web browser without the need for human input: it can fill out forms, make purchases online, or reserve places. Amazon states that AI agents perform tasks in digital and physical environments, acting on behalf of the user. The tool is currently being offered to US users via a dedicated website at nova.amazon.com, where accessibility will only continue to widen as research preview feedback is received.
Amazon's AI agent launch now sets it squarely against strong competition from Microsoft and Google, both developing similar agentic AI systems on different approaches altogether. While Microsoft has recently released reasoning and autonomous AI agents for enterprise applications, Google keeps advancing its AI capabilities with Bard and Gemini. Amazon feels it has the advantage of its Nova Act marrying with the existing cloud infrastructure, especially Amazon Bedrock; this ecosystem enables developers to horizontally scale their AI applications in conjunction with the highly available Amazon cloud.
Currently available only in the U.S., the Nova Act AI Agent is expected to see broader global access as Amazon collects user feedback and refines its technology. The company’s focus on making the tool accessible to developers through an SDK demonstrates its commitment to fostering innovation and expanding the scope of AI applications.
Looking ahead, Amazon is likely to continue enhancing its Nova family of models by improving their accuracy, efficiency, and range of functionalities. With increasing competition in the AI sector, Amazon’s strategic approach to democratizing access to its frontier models could play a crucial role in securing its leadership position.
